SPRING 2010 WORKSHOP SERIES
Workshops for High School, Adult, Senior students
Our workshops highlight both specific and general
techniques in many areas of art. Sessions are designed to accommodate both
the beginner looking to explore new art media, and more experienced pupils
searching to further develop their skills. Workshops are arranged with a
smaller class size in mind, to allow for more student/teacher interaction.
SPRING WORKSHOP SERIES--Adults, Seniors:
ACRYLICS:
Acrylic Techniques- Maureen Gasek
(3 class
series)
This class is dedicated to developing your personal connection to
painting with acrylics and to expand your understanding of how they work.
We will explore the many different ways paint can be applied. Color
mixing and basic design elements will be presented through demonstration
and visual aids. We will look at and learn different techniques as
lifting, staining, alcohol resolve, layering, gel mediums etc… The
primary focus is abstract; however, combining abstract with realistic
elements is a transformation that can happen.

Advanced Acrylic Techniques –
This class is dedicated to learning the techniques associated with
different acrylic mediums. We will explore the many different ways
mediums can be used, the different effects that can be achieved and an
overall exploration of the world of acrylic mediums. i.e course molding
paste, glass bead, crackle paste, fiber paste and more… .

Charcoal Drawing – Jane Wilcoxson
(2 class series)
Develop your observation skills and
train your eye to see the world as an artist. Work with the rudimentary
drawing materials of charcoal and charcoal pencils. Techniques and skills
covered will include, Light to dark volume drawing - chiaroscuro, gesture
and line drawing, blind drawing and the observation and understanding of
line, edges and cast shadow. This class is ideal for the beginner or
intermediate apprentice student who is looking to refresh skills.

Pencil Drawing – Jane Wilcoxson
(2 class series)
Discover the fundamentals of drawing and sketching.
Working primarily with pencil, learn how to draw simple objects so that
they come to life on the paper. Techniques and skills covered in class
will include, contour line, gesture drawing, shape, shading and
composition. This class is ideal for the beginner or intermediate
student who is looking for a refresher class.

Colored Pencil Drawing – Jane Wilcoxson (2 class series)
Discover the delight of working with colored
pencils. Learn how to draw from a simple still life and delight in your
colorful composition. Techniques and skills covered in class will
include: Honing observation skills to see and understand shape, shadow,
line, edge and color. Basic composition, color theory, blending, and
layering and burnishing colors. This class is ideal for the beginner or
the intermediate apprentice student who is looking to refresh skills.

Printmaking Class I with Tim Burns
Woodcut printing is the most widely known and used type of
relief printmaking. Students will learn how to use create a
woodcut using the proper tools, learn how the negative
background space is cut away and ink is applied to the
remaining raised and revealed design which will then
be printed to paper.

COLOR REDUCTION PRINTMAKING
Printmaking Class II with Tim Burns
Students will learn how a multicolored design can be achieved by carving
away the wood to print each successive color using one block to print.
This innovation in printmaking was invented by Pablo Picasso.

OIL PASTELS:
Oil Pastels Class with Doris Lein (4-week course)
We will be exploring the medium of oil pastel with new experiences in
self portraiture, seascape study, still life and depictions of the night
sky.Through different lessons each week we will focus on building a new
repetoire of compostional pieces to enhance growth in understanding the
many genres of famous art works.

Fine Art Photography Course with Fred Ullrich

This 4-week course is for students who have an interest
in making fine art photographs and would like to gain
experience making their own fine art prints. Students will participate in lectures and work along side a fine art photographer in the field, in a lightroom at his studio, and at his darkroom in Geneva, Illinois. Students will need a notebook for all 4 sessions, camera equipment,
lenses (as needed), film & storage media for a half day of shooting.
NOTE: Students should have
own transportation or plan to carpool
together to Batavia and Geneva two
of the four Saturdays.

Collage Exploration and Discoveries with Debbie Egizio
By incorporating collage element into our paintings we often stumble upon
the unexpected. These collage discoveries can make our drawings,
paintings and even sculpture more rich, creative and dynamic. Learn how
you can grow as an artist with the use of numerous collage techniques.
