ART ADVENTURES  (a.k.a. ‘Mrs. Z’s Wacky World of Art’) For Ages 8-12
Art Adventures Camp features daily introductions into the fundamentals of art and art history using cool, creative 2-D and 3-D projects. Because each day highlights a new concept and historical time period, students will have an opportunity to try out a multitude of art materials and techniques while connecting with the artists famous for those techniques. At the end of each session, students will participate in an art exhibit for parents, family and friends.

art_class_2010Our popular summer sessions feature a new, fun 2-D or 3-D project each day that invites your child to express themselves artistically while learning specific art techniques. Students will use a variety of art materials as they draw on the artistic influences of different cultures (such as Mexican paper mache or Australian dot painting). At the class conclusion student works are part of an art exhibit for parents, family and friends!

Plein-Air Watercolors Intermediate Level  For Adult (ages 14+)
Capture the true essence of nature with painting outdoors. Learn how to prepare a painting environment outside, create and capture interesting compositions, all with the knowledge of the watercolor painting process. Students are encouraged to bring their own chair or outdoor work set up.

Landscape Painting Camp  For Ages 10+
Learn to paint breathtaking impressionistic and realistic landscapes.  Develop your understanding of the art of composition and color theory as it relates to landscape. Study the natural elements that make up a landscape, and also use designer’s gouache (a medium that is well suited to beginner and intermediate painters and used by professional artists worldwide). This is a precursory class and is ideal for students wishing to continue on to be successful at acrylic and oil painting.

Fundamentals of Calligraphy-

Beautiful Writing/Lettering (3 class series)
calligraphy_picStudents will learn the history, basic terms and styles of calligraphy. They will practice the techniques on Chancery, Cursive, Gothic (Old English) and Uncial Hand Lettering Styles.

Knitting I, II (2 class series)
Learn (or freshen up) the centuries-old skills involved in the art of knitting. Learn the basics of this practical, yet relaxing art form while you create a beautiful neck wrap made from luxurious Fair Trade handspun alpaca imported from Bolivia. Both Continental and English knitting styles will be demonstrated.knitting_basket

Paper Possibilities-Create Your Own Paper

(4 class series)
“Go Green” and have fun doing it! Learn the basic techniques and processes involved in paper making.  Add your own personal touch and creativity when you create your own stationary, greeting cards and envelopes.  Bring a smock to wear.

Fine Art Photography (4 class series)
fred_photographyThis 4-week course is for students who have an interest in making fine art photographs and would like to gain experience making their own fine art prints. Students will participate in lectures and work along side a fine art photographer in the field, in a lightroom at his studio, and at his darkroom in Geneva, Illinois.  Students will need a notebook for all 4 sessions, camera equipment, lenses (as needed), film & storage media for a half day of shooting. NOTE: Students should have own transportation or plan to carpool together to Batavia and Geneva two of the four Saturdays.

Understanding Abstract Workshop (1 day class)
This workshop covers an overview on theory, composition, color application, acrylic painting techniques and much more. Work from your imagination or from a composition of geometric shapes.  Students will explore the acrylic medium and the purpose and theory behind abstract. Students will learn how to look differently at the world around them and explore more detail in their environment. Abstract can be very geometric or fluid and students will explore both these avenues.

Acrylic Techniques I (4 class series)
This class is dedicated to developing your personal connection to acrylic paint and to expand your understanding of how they work. We will explore the many different ways paint can be applied. Color mixing and basic design elements will be presented through demonstration and visual aids. We will look at and learn different techniques as lifting, staining, alcohol resolve, layering, gel mediums etc… The primary focus is abstract; however, combining abstract with realistic elements is a transformation that can happen.
