BRITTANY SCHMUTZLER  Piano, Voice, Theory

sampleMs. Schmutzler received her Bachelor of Music Education degree at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL where she studied voice and piano. She has studied piano with Mary Zahora, Ririko Hayashi, and Joy Doran and voice with Robert Mangialardi and Sandy Deathos-Meers.  At Illinois Wesleyan, Brittany was involved in various activities such as: Wind Ensemble, Collegiate Choir, Chamber Singers, Titan Band, Sigma Alpha Iota (Professional Music Fraternity for Women), and MENC (Music Education National Conference). She was employed as a Music Theory college student tutor, and taught beginning Music Theory for students in the String Preparatory Department.

No stranger to the stage, Brittany starred as Darlene in the World Premiere of Fertile Ground, Musetta in La Boheme, and Tessa in The Gondoliers. In 2009, Brittany was a winner of the IWCO Concerto/Aria competition and had the opportunity to sing Verdi’s “Salce, Salce” from Otello with the IWCO. She spent her months of May exposing children to classical music by touring local elementary schools with Prairie Fire Theater’s children’s operettas including Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs. Locally, Brittany is involved with the Fox Valley Park District & has starred as Lady Thiang in The King & I, Mrs. Potts in Beauty & the Beast, and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz.

Brittany strives to make lessons enjoyable & productive by having a positive and enthusiastic teaching environment where students are rooted in classical technique, but also explore many different types of repertoire.
