Academy
Policies & Guidelines
Fox River Academy of Music & Art, Inc.
Policy Sheet/Practice Guidelines
1. Students should begin lessons/classes with the necessary equipment for that session. Instruments should be in favorable condition, and in good working order. Size of instrument should be appropriate for the age and skill level of the student. If an instrument is needed, your teacher can recommend the type of instrument necessary. Materials for session(s) enrolled (art supplies, books, and other items) should be those specifically selected for the class. The Fox River Academy student program may involve mandatory participation in group classes, ensembles, Performance Evaluations twice a year, and recitals (specific to each teacher), and may also involve voluntary participation in theory classes, performance groups, etc.
2. When signing up for private lessons, be aware that the learning process requires a time commitment that goes beyond your weekly session with the teacher. Your musical achievement greatly depends on the time investment you decide to make towards study. In order to advance properly in their study, students are expected to be prepared for their lessons and need to engage in regular practice suitable for the student’s age and skill level (by instructor recommendation; this may involve parents’ help in practice sessions for younger students). Inconsistent and unstructured practice can lead to lack of confidence, frustration, and irregular progress. Instructors and the Fox River Academy reserve the right to suspend, place in a probationary period, remove from scholarship, or terminate lessons if a student shows a consistent lack of preparation, attendance, or exhibit behavioral problems, both in private and in group instruction. Academy staff and teachers also reserve the right to send students home if they have come to a lesson clearly showing signs of illness.
3. Lesson slots are scheduled for the quarter, and are reserved for the remainder of the session. When scheduling lessons, try to decide on a time that you will generally be available. The Fox River Academy and its teachers/employees do not guarantee make-ups or refunds for student cancelled or missed lessons. Student cancellations and no-shows are not deducted from student tuition. Teacher cancellations will be rescheduled. Any tuition or attendance adjustments necessary (including unscheduled teacher cancellation make-ups) will be adjusted/credited at the end of the quarterly period. Fox River Academy teachers are under no obligation to provide make-up lessons for student cancellations or no-shows if student is unable or unwilling to participate in Academy make-up Performance Classes.
4. Lesson and class payments are due at the beginning of each quarter for the following term. Payment for lessons and classes must be made quarterly prior to initiation of enrollment. Payment can be made in full or separated into two payments, with the second half of tuition due by the sixth week of each quarter. Delinquent accounts (first payment past due seven days) will be charged a $10.00 late fee, and $5.00 for each additional week payment is delayed. If the student is past due for the previous quarter, he/she will not be able to enroll in the next quarter until payment is received. Tuition and payments are non-refundable, but may be transferred to another program at the Academy.
5. Student is automatically re-enrolled from quarter to quarter (pending each teachers’ quarterly schedule) unless the Academy office is notified by student of any lesson changes or termination. If student plans to discontinue their lesson program, the Fox River Academy Office must be directly notified at least two weeks prior to date of lesson termination (including students planning on stopping at the end of a quarter). Upon formal notification at our office, students will be charged for two lesson weeks following announcement. Failure to notify our office will result in two weeks’ charge from actual date of notification.
6. Our waiting area is designed specifically for students and their chaperones. Please do not leave children under 10 unattended—we do not have anyone to watch them in the waiting room, and cannot be responsible for them. The Fox River Academy and its faculty shall be held harmless by students and guardians for any injuries to, or caused by, students. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items. The Academy may use any photograph taken of me/my child at its functions on our website or for promotional purposes.
7. The Fox River Academy will notify students (parents/guardians if applicable) in a timely manner of any future changes to studio policies.
8. Enjoy yourself! You are about to begin on an
exciting personal journey. Whether you are starting private music or
art instruction, you will find new ways to express yourself, and develop
a new appreciation for others who are involved in the field.
